Gold Calculator — Estimate the Value of Gold
Estimate the value of gold based on its weight, purity (karat) and the gold price you provide. Simple, fast and easy to understand.
Results are estimates for information only. The price you enter may not equal the amount offered for your gold by a dealer, refinery or buyer. Always verify with a professional.
How to use the calculator
- Enter the weight of your gold and choose its unit (grams, troy ounces or kilograms).
- Select the purity or karat level of your gold (24K, 22K, 18K, 14K or a custom percentage).
- Enter the gold price per gram or per troy ounce that applies to your calculation.
- Review your entries — the estimated value is shown automatically.
Remember that the calculated value and the amount actually offered in a transaction may differ. Dealer margins, refining costs, taxes and other fees can reduce the final amount.
How is gold value calculated?
At a basic level, the underlying metal value can be estimated from:
Gold weight × Purity × Gold price per compatible weight unit
All values must use compatible units before performing the calculation. For example, if a market price is expressed per troy ounce while your item's weight is entered in grams, an appropriate unit conversion (1 troy ounce = 31.1034768 grams) is required.
Why does gold purity matter?
Not every gold item contains the same proportion of pure gold. Common purity levels include:
| Karat | Approximate gold content |
|---|---|
| 24K | Approximately pure gold (99.9%) |
| 22K | Approximately 91.7% gold |
| 18K | 75% gold |
| 14K | Approximately 58.3% gold |
The greater the pure-gold content, the more underlying gold is present at the same total weight. That is why two items of the same weight can have different values.
Gold calculator FAQ
Is the calculated gold value guaranteed?
No. Calculator results should be treated as estimates. Actual transaction prices can include dealer margins, refining costs, taxes, fees and other factors.
Can I calculate different gold karats?
Yes. Choose the appropriate purity or karat level before calculating — or use a custom percentage for unusual purities.
Why can gold values change?
Gold market prices fluctuate over time. Changes in the reference gold price can therefore change the calculated value of the same quantity of gold.
Which weight units does the calculator support?
Grams, troy ounces and kilograms, with automatic conversion between them.
